ChiPoo Dog

The ChiPoo dog is a mixed-breed dog that is a hybrid between a Chihuahua and a Toy or Teacup Poodle. These puppies received some of the greatest attributes from both of their parents, including compactness, energy, and a fondness for children.

The ChiPoo dog can be quite small and have a rather interesting look. The ChiPoo’s coat can be straight, wavy or curly. It can be short or long in length. The ChiPoo does not shed. Dewclaws are typically removed, and the tail can be docked or left natural. The Chi-Poos ears are typically semi-erect at adult hood, but due to the poodle in him could remain “drooped”. All colors are allowed. A Chi-Poo is a mix between a Chihuahua and typically a female Miniature Poodle. (Or female Chi-Poo)

Temperament

The ChiPoo is a kindhearted breed and make for a great companion dog. The Chipoo dog being part Miniature Poodle are usually good around kids in both their temperament and it compliments their size. Chipoo dogs are brave, energetic and proud little dogs who are always ready to give and receive affection from their owners and family. Chi-Poos are an extremely intelligent breed, which makes them easily trainable. Positive reinforcement does wonders for them. They make great pets for a single person. With strangers, they can be reserved but never hostile.

Height: 6-15 inches

Weight: Anywhere from 2-17 pounds with 3-6 pounds being the average

 

 

Health Problems

The Chi-Poo is a long lived breed, however may be subject to many genetic diseases common to both the Chihuahua and the Poodle including: Cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy which could cause blindness. Allergies and runny eyes are common. PRA, diabetes, epilepsy, and heart disease are all common in them. Watch feedings since some tend to gain weight. Some Chi-Poos have a molera typical of a Chihuahua, however most Chi-Poos have a solid skull like that of a Poodles. (a molera is an unclosed section of the skull, which may or may not close up in adulthood) Some tend to wheeze and snore.

Living Conditions

The Chi-Poo is a great pet for someone with a large house or even an apartment. Some Chi-Poo’s tend to get cold easily so may need to wear a coat on cooler days.

Exercise

Although a small breed, the Chi-Poo needs and loves exercise, many Chi-Poo’s get most of there exercise inside of the house but it is still a good idea to let them outside to play, or to take them for a walk for about twenty minutes daily.

Grooming

Different dogs require different grooming requirements. The shorter haired Chi-Poos only need a gently brushing about once a week, the medium haired Chi-Poos need to be groomed 4-5 times a week with a soft bristle brush, and the long haired Chi-Poo’s should be groomed about every other day. Most Chi-Poo’s with long fur need to be clipped regularly. Chi-Poos do not shed, or tend to shed very little. Most people with allergies can have a Chi-Poo. They should be bathed as needed.
